| New Study: Half Life of a Facebook Post Posted: 22 Apr 2011 01:52 PM PDT
This factoid and a few other interesting gems, comes from a study done by social media toolbar provider, Visibli. Their study indicated that Facebook posts get 50% of their likes in that first hour and twenty. A day later, the post is off the grid and forgotten but it still beats engagement on Twitter which has an even shorter window. AdAge quoted Visibli CEO Saif Ajani as saying,
On the other hand,
Let me take a moment to say anyone posting once every hour and 20 minutes on Facebook should be banned from the site. Moving on. Visibli works with a lot of artists on Facebook and they noticed an odd trend. They found that fan engagement on an artist’s FB page increased when the number of fans increased.
By far, though, the best fact to come out of this study is the fact that when it comes to fan engagement, Audi tops the list beating out Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. Given that fact, I must change a statement I made on yesterday’s article about free samples. Getting a photo of Justin Bieber holding your product is not the key to success. You need to get a photo of your product sitting in an Audi. With that, you’ll be gold. Read the, short and highly informative full report at Visbili.com. |
| Get Bing Rewards Without a Bing Bar Posted: 22 Apr 2011 01:19 PM PDT Did you know that Bing has a rewards program? I didn’t and I belong to dozens of these things. Before now, though, I wouldn’t have bothered with Bing’s because you had to download a toolbar, but not anymore. The Bing Rewards Preview is a program that let’s you earn credits when you visit the Bing homepage and there’s nothing to download. It uses your Windows Live ID to keep track, then it offers you point deals in a drop down box at the top of the page. I was very surprised by the actions required in the first two credit offers that I received. The first asked me to read a page about polio and the second to check out a visual search page of Pulitzer Prize winning books. I guess the idea here was to show me how varied a Bing search can be. I was intrigued by the visual search, but more as a fun time waster and less as an actual tool for research. Usually these rewards programs ask you to visit sponsors’ websites, so maybe that’s what’s coming up in my future. We’ll see. As for rewards, you need to hit around 1300 to 1600 to get a prize worth $10, such as an Amazon gift card or a paperback book. They do have a nice variety of rewards beyond gift cards, such as Xbox points, sweepstakes tickets or you can donate your points to charity. My question is, how long will it take me to reach prize level if I complete one offer a day. Right now, with all of my offers being only for 3 – 5 points (you get a 250 credit bonus when you sign up), it’s going to take a while. Still, Bing has done a smart thing by removing the toolbar requirement for their rewards program. Now the program is accessible to people on Firefox, Chrome, Safari and the latest IE and that should increase participation. Will it be enough to help Bing take a bite out of Google? We shall see.
